PRIME MINISTER SINGLE NOMINEE ACT 2020
AN ACT to proceed with anonymous acclamation for the office of Prime Minister in the event of sole nominee being read by the Lord Chancellor.
BE IT ENACTED by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords and Burgesses in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1. SHORT TITLE
This bill may be cited for all purposes as “Single Nominee Act 2020”
2. CONFIRMING THE DEFINITION OF NOMINEE FOR THE OFFICE OF PRIME MINISTER
Nomination process for the office of the Prime Minister begins after the Lord Chancellor or other Moderator of Parliament has opened the nomination in which a Lord or Burgess of Parliament who publicly declares his/her willingness to be nominated for the office of Prime Minister and/or a Lord or Burgess of Parliament who is nominated by another member of Parliament and have publicly accepted the nomination as outlined in the Fixed Term Parliament Act 2015 and as amended in the Prime Ministerial Elections Act 2015.
The Lord Chancellor and or other Moderator of Parliament will then read the name of the qualified candidate(s) in front of the Parliament assembled as nominee(s) for the office of the Prime Minister as outlined in the Fixed Term Parliament Act 2015 and as amended in the Prime Ministerial Elections Act 2015.
3. ADDING CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF THE FIXED TERM PARLIAMENT ACTS 2015
C. 13 In the event that only a single nominee emerges for the office of the Prime Minister, a vote be held in Parliament to acclaim that nominee, or to reopen nominations for a further 48 hours. Should the nominee win that vote, or there be no other nominee come forward within the additional 48 hours, Parliament and the Lord Chancellor shall then, formally, in the name of the assembled Lords and Burgesses in Parliament, recommend to His Majesty the appointment of the said candidate to the office of Prime Minister.
This legislative and all the provisions therein shall come into force upon receiving the Royal Assent.
